What happened in this odd crash?

When most people think of car accidents, they think of crashes involving other vehicles, pedestrians, motorcycles, and bicyclists. It is not uncommon to hear about a car accident impacting a construction zone. One recent crash in the city shows us that the unexpected really does happen. A driver slammed into a construction site in Anaheim and sent a worker down a 20-foot hole.

This incident happened in July, but we want to bring it up because it shows just how much negligent or careless drivers can cause havoc in and around the roadway. The driver in this crash slammed into machinery, which threw the worker down the hole. The construction worker had to be extricated from the hole by search and rescue crews who lowered a stretcher to the worker. The injured man was rushed to the hospital.

Police detained the driver who caused the crash about a block from the incident.

How often do car accidents occur?

While this incident may not be something that happens every day, we know that car accident is common. Just because they are common does not mean we should take them less seriously. According to the state’s Office of Traffic Safety, we know that vehicle crashes led to over 273,000 injuries and nearly 4,000 total fatalities across California during the latest reporting year. Many of those were pedestrian crashes like the one we discussed above. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable to injuries from crashes. They have virtually no protection from the force of an impact.
It is not uncommon for our Anaheim pedestrian accident lawyers to see the following injuries:

  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Concussions

Car accident victims often face the prospect of major medical bills as well as lost income if they cannot work due to their injuries.
