A dump truck being used to steal an ATM might sound like the plot of a low-budget slapstick movie, but it actually happened in Los Angeles on Sunday February 25. According to reports, Los Angeles Sheriff officials were called to Artesia around 4.45pm, where a Chase Bank ATM in the 17300 blocks of Pioneer Boulevard had been stolen and transported on a dump truck. Although the ATM’s tracking device meant the law enforcement officials located the truck pretty quickly, the story didn’t end there.
The deputies’ first attempt at apprehending the suspects was called off when the driver refused to stop the dump truck, causing considerable danger to others on the road. When the chase was resumed a short while later, one passenger jumped from the truck and ran away, while the driver headed for the 105 Freeway. After 20 minutes driving in a westerly direction, the truck shot down a steep embankment and resumed driving in the streets. It didn’t take long for the driver to have an accident and, after colliding with two parked vehicles on Bellinger Street in Lynwood, all occupants of the dump truck escaped on foot.
The suspects, who may be male or female, have not yet been located. The dump truck was reported stolen later on Sunday.
