Pedestrian Killed In Bus Incident
Police are investigating an incident in which a 77-year-old transient man was struck by a Samho Tour & Travel bus. Authorities say that the man was struck near the corner of Flower Street and Adams Boulevard and dragged for nearly 900 feet.
The casino bus fled the scene but was found in a storage yard in Garden Lake hours later. Police are not yet sure the driver knew he had even hit the man and they say the driver and the bus company are cooperating with the investigation. One witness saw the incident take place, saying she saw someone under the bus holding on “like he was clinging for life.”
Authorities say that fatigue may be a factor in the crash, as the driver had just finished a four-day, 2,000-mile road trip.
At the Compass Law Group, we know that pedestrians face many dangers in and around the roadway and not just from vehicles. If you need a pedestrian accident attorney in Los Angeles, we will work to secure the compensation you deserve.
While we still do not know what caused the accident discussed above, we know that pedestrians are extremely vulnerable anytime they are in and around the roadway. In the case above, it may turn out that the driver was distracted or fatigued and did not see the man he struck.
We also know that there are many other ways that pedestrians are affected. They are at risk of being struck by impaired or distracted drivers. Even at places where pedestrians have the right-of-way, they are at risk. All too often people speed through these areas because they are in a hurry or do not pay attention to the signs.
Even at slower speeds, pedestrians can sustain major injuries. When these accidents occur, the damage to the victim can be severe. We commonly see the following injuries after pedestrian accidents:
- Major spinal cord damage
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Dislocated and broken bones
- Amputations and crush injuries
- Internal organ damage and bleeding
When a person sustains these injuries, they need immediate and extensive medical care. Often, long-term rehabilitation is necessary for a person to make a recovery. Even then, they may suffer from permanent disabilities that require long-term medical care.
All of this can become incredibly costly and insurance may not cover all of the expenses. Even worse, a person may no longer be able to work and provide an income for themselves or their family.
