Truck Slams Pedestrians At Taco Stand

Patrons at a taco stand in Boyle Heights were put into a situation they did not want to be in over the weekend when a truck struck several pedestrians, sending two to the hospital.
The LAPD says that the driver told them his brakes went out and he did not see the taco stand when he swerved towards the sidewalk to avoid oncoming traffic. The driver hit a stopped vehicle before running into the food stand. The man who was prepping the food ended up caught underneath the truck.
While the exact cause of this crash is still being investigated, we know that it highlights some of the dangers faced by pedestrians in and around our area. Do you know what to do if you are injured in a pedestrian incident?
When you need a Los Angeles pedestrian accident attorney, you can count on the Compass Law Group to be by your side, working to secure the compensation you need for all of your accident-related expenses.

California Numbers

There were 14,215 pedestrian accident injuries and 867 pedestrian accident deaths during the latest reporting year for California.
In Los Angeles County for the same year, there were nearly 6,000 pedestrians injured or killed.
These numbers are astounding. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable group of people in and around our roadways. When they get struck by a vehicle, there is almost always going to be an injury.

Why?

Because pedestrians do not have any protection. When something slams into them, they feel the full impact with the object and the ground. That is why we commonly see severe internal injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and more as a result of pedestrian accidents.
Often, these accidents are the result of drivers simply not paying attention to their surroundings. In the story above, the driver of the truck admitted to not seeing the taco stand.
Other times, drivers are distracted by their cell phones or something else in the vehicle. Distracted driving is a problem that is causing more and more annual incidents.
Drunk drivers still cause more than 25 percent of all traffic deaths in the state and they are particularly dangerous to pedestrians.
Regardless of how a pedestrian accident occurs, if it happens because of someone else’s negligent behavior, that person needs to be held accountable.
